Celebrate the Sun

Red Sweater: Owino market, Blue jeans: Old jeans from Mr.Price cut, Gladiators: Gifted from sister, Necklace: Gifted from friend (thanks Katalina), Purse: From downtown 5,000 ugsh, Bracelet: Mr. Price S.A
The sun came out for a bit today, I thought I should make the most of it and wear one of my favorite pairs of shorts, this is another pair of shorts I made for a pair of jean I fell out of love with, I tend to do that a lot with my old raggedy jeans. I still wasn’t too sure of the weather so I wore a sweater just in case but it ended up being sunny enough to take it off.

The little purse is an absolute favorite and part-time’s as a pencil case when I’m in school, I love the African print ad you can get these tailor made at only 5,000ug shillings in town. If you would like one comment and I’ll be sure to get back to you on how I could get you one.

The shoes are also a DIY project, these used to be knee-high gladiator sandals, but I found I wasn’t wearing them as much as I wanted to because I hardly wear shorts or skirts, I’m more of a jeans and pants girl, and when I do wear shorts or skirts it’s all heels for me, even though I’m on a mission to change that, so basically I cut off the top and was left with these, but originally they were a gift from my lovely sister.

The hair was a twist out that had just got rained on thus its shrunken state. It was a chunky bundle of natural hair badass-ness, I decided to keep it real simple with this outfit, plain colors and no prints, I thought the raggedy shorts did enough to spice up this outfit is it is to I kept the rest simple…

Finally some sunlight up in here…woop woop

Instead of Sunshine

Black crop top: from Owino, Yellow skirt: DIY from dress, Shoes: shop near Gazaland, Necklace: Masaai market, Earrings: shop near Akamwesi, Purse: Gifted from mum, Bracelet: Gifted from mum
I’m starting to believe that the sun is never going to shine for a full day again in Kampala, seriously how can it rain every single day for two weeks? Today I’d had enough of the dreary weather so I decided to wear a bright yellow skirt, which was originally a dress but I cut it into a midi length skirt, because I somewhat reminded myself of Big Bird every time I wore that damn dress. This was somewhat a desperate measure to bring some sunshine into my life.

It was a cold day, AGAIN so I decided to wear something long sleeved, I chose this black crop top with nylon shoulders, all in all this kept me warm and brightened my day just a little, but seriously though…I’m in need of some sunshine. So good old Ugandan sunshine is what I need.

I love this purse because it has colors that go with almost everything, and I got them from my momma! The shoes are some of the most comfy pairs of heels I own seriously these shoes are so comfy, even though with all the rain, those heels do dig into Kampala’s sometimes muddy streets

If you’re like me, and you are in need of some cheering up in these last few cold and gray days, here’s a little advice that I’m following: wear something bright, it helps! Listen to upbeat music…I’ve become a housaholic these last few days, thanks to a friend for giving me a huge selection of house music…I find music has an incredible way of changing people’s moods, so if you want to be happy, well listen to some happy music, lastly…choose joy and gratitude…I always find when I’m feeling down the easiest way to lift my spirits is to find something to be thankful for and focus all my energy on thinking about how much that thing means to me. Today I was thankful for the ability to do the things I love, maybe its watching The Fault In our Stars that got me thinking how lucky I have been to have been healthy enough all my life to do the things I want to do.

I’ve noticed how I’ve taken this for granted, not exercising, or not eating right. Even though I’m not a horrible eater, and I do sometimes exercise, I realize I take the opportunity to do these things for granted and slack when it comes to treating my body right (I need to start exercising and eating better)
I’ve made a decision to use my body more, I mean exercise, do sports, get out their more and do things that push me! So I’m thankful for that and as a result I’m wearing joy all over myself, wrapped around my skin and the deepest parts of my being…Today instead of Sunshine, I choose joy.

Warm Layers

Gold earring: gifted from friend, Gray scarf: Mr. Price, Bag: boutique in town, Cardigan: Owino market, Jeans: Owino market, Tank vest: Mr. Price
It’s been raining and pouring for weeks now, on a daily, tropical weather sometimes can be such a party pooper! It’s been cold and wet, the perfect weather for staying home, watching movies, eating warm cozy meals and doing all things comfortable. I on the other hand have been running around town trying to get everything ready for this fashion show, keeping up with the tailor and the sponsors, the décor… all in the damned dreary weather, so I’ve been pulling out my sneakers, cardigans, scarves, trying to get as comfortable and warm in this soggy weather.

I would rather be at home reading a Zora Neale Hurston book… Their eyes were watching God in particular (meanwhile if you haven’t read the book, you need to…if you are not interested in reading watch the movie, it is UUH-MUH-ZING)

I got these shoes randomly from a shop downtown, and it’s like they were made for wet weather, they are the kind of shoes that look just as great wet as they do dry, plus they are comfy comfy comfy, and dry quickly, even though they don’t look it, they are pretty warm

The great thing about this weather though is my hair loves it. I finally got it undone, two nights ago and it’s been ecstatic about getting wet every day. I’ve missed my big bad fro which has got bigger and badder after 3 months of being braided (don’t judge me), it’s sad it’s due for a trim because I’m loving its length at the moment, not too long not too short…perfection!

Anyway lets all hope the sun comes out soon, this weather is turning me into a lazy bum.

Thanx for reading people
