Peacock feather print maxi, with navy blue tank top (I've had these forever) |
Sunbathing in a maxi all afternoon y’all, one thing about
Uganda its almost always sunny, and there is something so freeing aboyt sitting
in the sun, in the open. I realized freedom is about being in the open, being
vulnerable.
Vulnerability and freedom are two things that must come hand
in hand. The thing about freedom is it means exposure, open skies are not safe
places, you can get shot down easy, it’s a scary place out there and it’s a lot
easier to remain in the nest. But the thing about vulnerably it means freedom
and it means being fearless.
Being exposed is a worthwhile price for freedom, letting
people see your magnificent wings spread out in the sky is worth it. You must come to a point where
you force yourself to learn how to embrace what you love about yourself and
what you have never though beautiful or right and then step into the sunlight.
“Not everyone is okay with living like an open wound. But
the thing about open wounds is that, well, you aren’t ignoring it, your
healing, the fresh air can get to it. It’s honest. You aren’t hiding who you
are. You aren’t rotting. People can give you advice on how to heal without
scarring badly. But on the other hand there are some people who’ll feel
uncomfortable around you. Some will even point and laugh. But we all have
wounds…” Warsan Shire
Being vulnerable is freeing and healing, it may be hard
sometimes to take a piece of yourself and release it to the world, to open
yourself up and walk with your insides hanging out, we are taught that that’s
not right, its ugly. But the thing is who we really are needs some sunlight
too, living like an open wound is a freeing experience, we aren’t telling lies
anymore.
We must come to a place where we believe we are too great,
too beautiful, too worthy, too right to be kept a secret.
We must be vulnerable and fearless, we must be brave and free
